Hello and warmest welcomes! I’m Shelley, a lifelong artist and creative, and Little Black Mare is my printmaking studio and absolute labour of love.

Named for my gorgeous rescue Shetland pony Maisie (the original little black mare), all the art created in my studio goes through a similar process. Inspiration comes from Maisie's wildflower meadow, or my long walks in the woods and hills that surround my home, with my lurchers Tilda and Lola.
I love to watch the light at play on the trees and the fields. I'll capture scenes or just little details in my sketchbook, or perhaps collect a leaf or some other treasure. Then I’ll spend some time in my studio, bringing ideas together and deciding which print process will best capture the image’s wholeness and beauty.
